Biography

With over 10 years of DJ skill under his belt, including the operation of his renowned 12” record label, Cynosure Recordings, Mike Shannon is recognized as one of the central figures in Canada’s emerging electronic music scene. The trajectory of Shannon's career mirrors that of the nascency of Canadian electronic music. Born and raised in Kitchener Ontario, he began DJing at the age of twelve, using a mixer bought for him by his father, and by the age of fifteen was playing for his first audiences. The year was 1993. Situated right in between Detroit's illustrious techno history and the fruition of Toronto's burgeoning rave scene, Kitchener presented a young Shannon with ample opportunity to absorb both musical legacy and creative license. These two points of reference, these parameters of past and possibility, left an indelible mark on his attitude toward music, marks that can still be seen in his work today.
